A modular bamboo library.
Collaborated development and production – Artan
The bamboo bookshelf came to be as a result of research into minimalism.
The realization that two points suffice to hold a book, the will to use minimal material, making book holders at the ends of a bookshelf redundant, turning the attention towards the books themselves by using a light design – brought to the development of BambooK.
The use of bamboo was evident as it is light and ecological, and because of the relation between the “tree” as a plant, and the “papyrus” and the paper. The bookshelf is made of a single material. The bamboo rods are connected by chopsticks, that are also made up of bamboo. The third rod was added to allow varying book sizes, and this is the reason for the allegedly random widths and heights of the shelves. The product can be used for other purposes as well, including a partition or a rail.
In its natural state, agains a wall, the bookshelf will be connected directly to the wall, without the rods reaching the ceiling.
