When a line becomes a place
While common apartment design follows the closed and defined spacial ideal, this unique concept defines the space with lines on the field. The use of the field allows for a precise and thought-out incorporation into the landscape, and creates flexible and dynamic internal spaces, giving the project a modern, unique, precise, and open language. The use of the line on the field reflects a planning ideal that sees the architect as a platform, a stage, and a back story for human action. This ideal believes that good architecture provides the optimal functioning conditions, and thus becomes a source of inspiration. Environmental awareness (“Sustainable Construction” and economic efficiency): The platforms are placed in a graded fashion, based on the slope, thus reducing ground work and the building of support walls. The asymmetric design allows for individual treatment, and suitability to the varying terrain. Openness: Because of the minimal use of construction material, the graded platform placement, and the multiple screening solutions (brick walls, fixed slats, portable blinds, and curtains), the level of intimacy in the residence can be controlled while maximizing nature’s resources: energy and experience – here the individuals communicate with their environment, both natural and artificial. Flexibility: The winding master line, defines very clearly the building style. The “back story” allows for flexibility in the design, and thus efficient development of varying housing styles at earlier stages, and personal modifications in later stages, following the clients’ demands. Creativity, novelty: A solidified, clean, elegant, and modern language that distinguishes itself from the eclectic architecture of the surrounding neighborhoods, expressing a new era of an up-to-date housing environment that resonates in an international scale.
